Mirzapur has kick-started the preparation of its Urban River Management Plan (URMP) under Phase-I of Namami Gange’s World Bank-funded project for developing URMPs across 60 Ganga-basin cities.
Mirzapur is culturally vibrant, socially coherent and bestowed with lush green landscapes and numerous micro-catchments linked via feeder streams.
A four-member team from NIUA and LEA Associates visited Mirzapur this week to review ongoing operational initiatives related to riverfront development and pollution abatement in the city. The visit was followed by the organisation of the first Multi-Stakeholder Working Group (MSWG), chaired by District Magistrate Smt. Priyanka Niranjan, IAS, and co-chaired by Sh. G.Laal, Executive Officer. Municipal Chairperson Sh. Shyam Sundar Kesari highlighted the importance of livelihood-related activities along the Ganges and assured the full support and cooperation of the city administration.
