Youth Action for Yamuna River Rejuvenation was organised by the Department of Environment, Delhi, on 28 November 2025, bringing together teachers and students from eight schools across the city. As part of the programme, Ms. Jyoti Verma and Ms. Arsh Saluja from NIUA conducted an interactive session on the ecological significance of the Yamuna River and the importance of river rejuvenation. The discussion highlighted key challenges facing the river, including untreated sewage, polluted drains, solid waste dumping, and inadequate wastewater management, while also exploring the wider environmental, social, and public health impacts of river pollution in urban areas.
A key feature of the session was the use of engaging and interactive approaches, including storytelling, to help students better understand the importance of river conservation and community stewardship. The speakers emphasised the role of youth in supporting river rejuvenation efforts at individual, neighbourhood, and community levels. Participants were also introduced to NIUA and NMCG’s work on river restoration, including the Urban River Management Plan framework and community engagement initiatives. The session concluded with a discussion on ways to strengthen youth participation through cleanliness drives, awareness campaigns, and citizen science initiatives for monitoring and protecting water bodies.
