Student Thesis Competition (STC): Season 6 – Assessment Workshop and Shortlisting of Finalists

About the Event

Following the successful launch of the Student Thesis Competition (STC): Season 6 in October 2025, the competition received an overwhelming response from students across the country. A total of 129 research proposal entries were submitted by final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students representing 71 institutions across 22 states and union territories, including Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab. The submissions reflected diverse and innovative approaches to addressing challenges related to urban rivers and water bodies.

To identify the most promising proposals, an assessment workshop was conducted on 10 December 2025. The evaluation process involved 15 external experts and 19 internal evaluators. The external evaluators, comprising practitioners and subject-matter experts from academia and industry, were paired with internal evaluators to assess proposals aligned with their areas of expertise. Entries were evaluated on parameters such as innovation, relevance, subject understanding, practicality, replicability, and quality of presentation. The workshop concluded with discussions on potential collaborations and engagement opportunities for the subsequent stages of STC Season 6.

Based on the assessment, approximately 40 candidates were shortlisted for the online interview round held on 18–19 December 2025, where participants presented and defended their research proposals before the jury. Following a rigorous evaluation process, 20 finalists—10 each from the undergraduate and postgraduate categories—were selected. The results were announced in the last week of December 2025. The finalists represent 13 leading institutions across 11 states and 13 distinct academic disciplines, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of river and water-related research in India.
