As part of its academic collaboration initiatives, NIUA is serving as a knowledge partner for the Integrated Studio for Guwahati at SPA Bhopal. Through this engagement, the River Cities Alliance (RCA) aims to provide technical guidance, share relevant datasets for Guwahati—an RCA member city—and facilitate co-learning opportunities with students as emerging water and urban planning professionals.
The first lecture in this collaboration, titled Design and Planning for Resilient Cities – Vision for Guwahati, was conducted online on 28 January 2026 by Mr. Lovlesh Sharma, Senior Water and Infrastructure Specialist, NIUA. The session was organised ahead of the students’ field visit to Guwahati and provided an overview of key concepts and considerations for resilient and river-sensitive urban planning.
The Integrated Studio focuses on developing an ecosystem-based disaster risk resilience framework for Guwahati that integrates ecological restoration, risk reduction, and human-centred resilience. In line with these objectives, the lecture highlighted critical aspects for students to observe, document, and analyse during their fieldwork, with particular emphasis on water systems, river corridors, ecological assets, and urban development patterns. The session aimed to equip students with a practical understanding of how field-based observations can inform integrated and sustainable planning strategies.
