Training Session on Green Bonds and Municipal Finance

About the Event

A masterclass on Green Bonds and Municipal Financing was delivered by Mr. Pushkal Upadhayay, Finance Specialist and former Executive Director (Finance) at NMCG. He has more than 25 years of experience in government functioning, project execution, and policy formulation, spanning across various domains and capacities. His insights helped demystify how green finance can be a powerful enabler for sustainable water interventions in Indian cities.

Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Chief Advisor at NIUA, further grounded the discussion in real-world administrative contexts, highlighting his experiences across city, state, and central levels.

Key session takeaways included: understanding what qualifies as a “green” bond; breaking down application processes and eligibility criteria for cities; exploring opportunities for cities to tap into green financing; evaluating mechanisms and fund allocation strategies; reviewing key case studies and implementation models

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Water and Environment vertical to foster a culture of learning, connect thematic and financial dimensions of water-centric urban development, and support evidence-based advisory for cities, especially under their seminal River Cities Alliance (RCA).
