Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh: Demand Driven Technical Support

About the Event

As a member city of the River Cities Alliance (RCA), the Jhansi Municipal Corporation requested the RCA Secretariat to undertake a technical perception visit to Jhansi. The objective was to develop an indicative understanding of the current condition of the Pahuj River within municipal limits and to identify broad strategic directions for river management and ecological improvement.

The assessment focused on understanding key hydrological, ecological, and urban water management aspects of the Pahuj River system and selected urban water bodies in Jhansi. The scope of the perception study included:

  • Water quality and ecological assessment: Indicative evaluation of water quality, ecological characteristics, and drainage–wastewater interactions within the Pahuj River system, along with factors influencing river health and ecosystem conditions;
  • Urban services and infrastructure review: Baseline observation of existing wastewater, drainage, and solid waste management systems, including ongoing sewage infrastructure interventions affecting the river environment;
  • River-edge and institutional analysis: Identification of key ecological, institutional, and river-edge management concerns, along with indicative areas for intervention and strategic directions for integrated and sustainable river management.
