Inception Stakeholder Workshop for “Preparing an Urban River Management Plan (URMP) for Delhi”

About the Event

The Inception Stakeholder Workshop for “Preparing an Urban River Management Plan (URMP) for Delhi” was successfully convened, marking a pivotal and landmark step in Delhi’s mission to rejuvenate the Yamuna and integrate river-sensitive planning into the city’s urban future.

The workshop was inaugurated by a distinguished gathering of national and international dignitaries, including Shri Dharmendra ji (Chief Secretary, Delhi), Smt. Debashree Mukherjee (Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti), Ms. Marisa Gerards (Ambassador, Kingdom of the Netherlands), Shri Kaushal Raj Sharma (CEO, Delhi Jal Board), Shri Rajeev Kumar Mital (DG, NMCG), and Dr. Debolina Kundu (Director, NIUA).

A highly engaging Mentimeter exercise, led by Ms. Anna Brittas (Senior Research Associate, NIUA), sparked lively participation, testing stakeholder knowledge, capturing aspirations, and revealing insights into how the URMP can shape Delhi’s future, serving both as an energiser and a compass for the sessions ahead. In the technical sessions that followed, Shri Nalin Kumar Srivastava (DDG, NMCG) and Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra (Chief Advisor, W&E, NIUA) provided an in-depth exposition of the URMP framework and how it must be tailored to Delhi’s economic, social, and environmental contexts. Critical insights were further contributed by key stakeholders and sector experts, including Prof. C. R. Babu, Mr. Sander Carpay, Ms. Rebecca Epworth, Ms. Upneet Singh, and Mr. Manabendra Saharia.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks by Shri Dheeraj Joshi, Director (Urban) NMCG, reaffirming a shared commitment to a resilient, water-sensitive future for Delhi.
