Expert Brainstorming Session on Stormwater Drain Rejuvenation

About the Event

Under the River Cities Alliance (RCA), NIUA convened a dynamic Expert Consultation Session to co-develop a Toolkit for the Holistic Rejuvenation of Stormwater Drains in Cities, in collaboration with the National Mission for Clean Ganga.

About the Toolkit: The Toolkit is designed as a comprehensive, action-oriented guide for cities to holistically manage and rejuvenate their stormwater drains. It integrates nature-based solutions and in-situ treatment technologies to transform urban drains into resilient, healthy, and people-friendly ecosystems.

Expert Consultation Highlights: The session brought together urban water experts, engineers, and practitioners to: deliberate on key components of drain rejuvenation (e.g., water quality, edge treatment, community engagement); share field experiences from cities like Delhi, Udaipur, Bengaluru, and others; identify challenges, enabling conditions, and implementation pathways; strengthen practitioner networks and foster collaboration

Panel of Experts: Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Chief Advisor, NIUA; Ankit Srivastava, Biosphere Environment Engineering Solutions; Manu Bhatnagar, INTACH; Sayali Joshi, CEO, SERI Pune; Bhagyashri Kulkarni, Mod Foundation, Bengaluru

This consultation is the first step in building a resilient and sustainable framework for stormwater management in Indian cities. The Toolkit will be piloted in a selected RCA city to refine and ground its approach.
