 
													 
													 
													 
													The RCA Secretariat are advancing River-Sensitive Urban Planning in Bihar. Under the initiative “Promoting the Incorporation of River Consideration in Master Plans”, the Secretariat, in collaboration with the Bihar State Administration, hosted a two-day workshop in Patna on “Making River-Sensitive Master Plans”.
The workshop brought together 50+ urban planners, engineers, and officials from 25+ Urban Local Bodies, BUIDCO, SPMG, TCPO, and leading consultancies. Shri Rajiv Kumar Shrivastava, IAS, Additional Secretary, UDHD, Bihar, commenced the event with an inspiring address, followed by a virtual keynote by Shri Nalin Kumar Srivastava, DDG, National Mission for Clean Ganga, highlighting the national importance of river-centric planning.
Participants engaged in discussions on the systems in place for Bihar’s master planning, and the opportunities and challenges of integrating river considerations therein. Through hands-on baselining exercises and sectoral strategy sessions, attendees explored how to practically embed river sensitivity into urban planning. With 43 new master plans in the pipeline, the workshop has been a vital step in aligning Bihar’s urban growth with ecological resilience and sustainability, cementing the inclusion of the river component in Bihar’s urban planning.
